Christian and Jewish Holocaust Study Day

Tikkun Olam is a Manchester-based committee whose aim is to provide education in the subject of the Holocaust, and also to promote religious harmony through knowledge, mutual understanding, and respect for different beliefs and practices.

Our organising committee, with Jewish, Anglican and Catholic members, funds and organises educational events featuring distinguished speakers and meant for members of the public, clergy, students and teachers. Our next major event will be a Christian and Jewish Holocaust Study Day on Friday, 5 November 2010, from 9.30 a.m. to approx 1 p.m. There is no charge for this event, which we organise in conjunction with the Council of christians and Jews, Manchester.

You can email us at contact@tikkunolam.org.uk

Our study day, which has now run annually for ten years, is quite different from the Holocaust Education Trust's national events held each January. We focus on the religious viewpoint rather than the social and political aspects of genocides, and aim to provide unique insights. We always include the personal testimony of a survivor of the Holocaust.

Although our subject is of the greatest seriousness, we look forward to a stimulating, informative, and often enjoyable day which is a real contribution to inter-faith relations.

Our name comes from Tikkun Olam (תיקון עולם) a Hebrew phrase which translates to "mending the world." It is a spiritual and practical task in which we must all participate, even though we cannot personally complete it.

Passing on the lessons of the Holocaust and promoting peace between the great religions is an important part of the work.
